Iquitos Peru from space

Screen shot of Iquitos Peru from Google Earth.

Change is Inevitable

I have been told that as an SM you always have to be flexible and prepared for change. This past week was eventful and exciting, and full of change. I decided that I would be going to Iquitos Peru, instead of Zambia. There are several reasons. Zambia did not have room for me to stay at the Farm Institute and the director was going to be away for a few months. I am confident that next year there will be someone serving in Zambia from WWU.

In Peru there is already a buzz of activity around microfinance. The director in Iquitos has a fish farm and chicken farm in place and many other ideas that he is excited to get working on. Iquitos is a large city of over 500,000 people. The Amazon River flows next to the city and jungles creep right up to it. Many people live in unfortunate circumstances, with sewage seeping into their homes when the river rises.

This is an unexpected change in plans, but through prayer and contemplation I have come to believe that it is the right path for me to be on. I want to thank all of you for your support in this exciting adventure for the people of Peru.
